Use CFLs
Replace conventional light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). Not only will you save money on your electric bill, you won’t have to change your bulbs as often. That alone is worth it!

Conserve Water
A lot of energy is needed to purify and distribute water to households. Fix that leaky toilet or faucet and don’t leave water running. Washing clothes in cold water will also reduce energy use.

Buy ENERGY STAR Appliances
When purchasing new appliances, look for products that contain the ENERGY STAR label. These products help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Check out EnergyStar.gov for more information.

Turn Off Lights
Turn off the lights when you’re not home. When you are home, turn off the lights in rooms that are unoccupied.

Maintain Your Home
Reduce drafts by fixing cracks in your house, better insulate areas that are poorly insulated and replace old windows that leak. Tune your heating and cooling system and make sure the air filters are regularly cleaned.
