Green Piggy was created by two sisters who were concerned about the environmental impact of their everyday lives, their “carbon footprint.” Although the two had always been environmentally conscious at home, they neglected the environment when it came to driving.

At home, the duo were energy independent… they were religious about recycling, they turned down their thermostats, replaced light bulbs with compact fluorescents, used ENERGY STAR appliances, and conserved water. You name it, they did it. Not the case with their cars. They drove SUVs. I know, you’re gasping with horror. How could they?

The sisters brainstormed ideas of how to improve the environment without drastically changing their lifestyles. At home, they were ecologically responsible, but they just didn’t know how they could give up their SUVs. You see, the two were stay-at-home moms who were always carting kids around. They lived in the suburbs, where an SUV came in handy on snowy days. And, traveling on vacations in an SUV (with kids and the family dog)…well, that speaks for itself.

That’s when the sisters came up with “Recycle, Reuse, Reduce...then Offset.” Recycle paper, plastic, glass and any other items that your community will reuse. Reuse anything and everything you can. Reduce and conserve energy. Then, offset the rest.
